Smartlipo is laser-assisted lipolysis. This process is a laser assisted out-patient procedure that takes place in the office or clinic. Fat cells are eliminated by using a very small tube inserted in the skin. The laser fiber is inserted through this tube. This highly effective procedure also aids in up to 70% tightening of the skin. As the tube, or cannula, is moved back and forth laser energy is delivered straight to the fat cells. These fat cells burst and change into a liquid substance that is removed from the body. Because the procedure is minimally invasive the patient has less swelling, bleeding, and bruising. This results in a short recovery time with no stitches and very little pain.
Patients with fatty areas that have not responded to diet and exercise is an excellent candidate for Smartlipo™ treatment. Smartlipo™ differs from traditional lipolysis in that it is minimally invasive and does not require a long recovery period. Using a local anesthetic along with the fact that there is less bleeding means that it is safer than traditional lipolysis.
Smartlipo™ is an excellent choice for most fatty areas of the body including the the belly, hips, thighs, knees, back, pubic area, face, and neck. Patients usually need one treatment lasting about an hour and are able to immediately return to work. However, it is advised to take off a day or two for rest. The Smartlipo™ procedure will permanently remove fat cells. Fat cells that are removed lower the overall total of fat cells that remain in the body producing lasting results! Although immediate results will be seen, improvement will continue for about six months.
In the event the patient gains weight it will not be in the area where the fat cells were removed because the body does not produce more fat cells.
